Theme Interception Sequence Learning: Deflecting Rubber-Hose Attacks Using Implicit Learning

چکیده
Existing cryptographic systems use strong passwords but several techniques are vulnerable to rubber-hose attacks, wherein the user is forced to reveal the secret key. This paper specifies a defense technique against rubberhose attacks by taking advantage of image sequence-based theme selection, dependent on a user’s personal construct and active implicit learning. In this paper, an attempt to allow the human brain to generate the password via a computer task of arranging themed images through which the user learns a password without any conscious knowledge of the learned pattern. Although used in authentication, users cannot be coerced into revealing the secret key since the user has no direct knowledge on the choice of the learned secret. We also show that theme interception sequence learning tool works significantly well with mixed user age groups and can be used as a secondary layer of security where human user authentication remains a priority.

Neuroscience Meets Cryptography: Designing Crypto Primitives Secure Against Rubber Hose Attacks
Cryptographic systems often rely on the secrecy of cryptographic keys given to users. Many schemes, however, cannot resist coercion attacks where the user is forcibly asked by an attacker to reveal the key. These attacks, known as rubber hose cryptanalysis, are often the easiest way to defeat cryptography. We present a defense against coercion attacks using the concept of implicit learning from...

Objective: The motor skill performance and learning in older adults are of a great importance. The primary purpose of this study was to determine whether older adult’s explicit knowledge effect on implicit learning and motor performance and which are typical for rehabilitation and skills acquired in older adults. Materials & Methods: In this comparative study a serial reaction time task by u...
متن کاملOperating characteristics of the implicit learning system supporting serial interception sequence learning.
The memory system that supports implicit perceptual-motor sequence learning relies on brain regions that operate separately from the explicit, medial temporal lobe memory system. The implicit learning system therefore likely has distinct operating characteristics and information processing constraints. To attempt to identify the limits of the implicit sequence learning mechanism, participants p...

Introduction: Motor skills and learning after stroke are of a great importance. This study aimed at studying implicit learning in unilateral stroke patients using affected hand and comparison with normal subjects. Methods: A serial reaction time task by using a software was applied for studying implicit motor learning in 15 stroke patients and 15 matched normal subjects. In this task 4 squar...

OBJECTIVE Implicit skill learning is hypothesized to depend on nondeclarative memory that operates independent of the medial temporal lobe (MTL) memory system and instead depends on cortico striatal circuits between the basal ganglia and cortical areas supporting motor function and planning. Research with the Serial Reaction Time (SRT) task suggests that patients with memory disorders due to MT...
